    1. Fantastic, what an enchanting and unique story with a completely different feel and so beautifully written. Jason and Robb two lost souls who bring out the best and worst in each other I love everything about them. You just know deep down without each other their future looks bleak and lonely they need to be together nothing else will make them happy.Sims, I too would love to see Jason's apartment what a wonderful experience that would be you can just imagine the masterpiece he created. I am hop [...]

    2. I will tell you a secret. Most people I know think that "Silent Night" is my favorite thing about Christmas. It is emotional, quiet, all the meanings of Christmas in one song. But my real favorite thing, and you have to keep this just between us, is "The Little Drummer Boy". I remember as a kid seeing the stop action special on tv, and the little drummer boy all alone, playing his little heart out for the Boy King. And I thought, even then, that's me - alone, a little different, with nothing muc [...]

    3. Even before reading this novella, I already knew that I was going to rate it at least four stars. L.B. Gregg has yet to write a book that disappointed me, and this one's no different. As I was reading the first half of Simple Gifts, I was pretty sure I was going to give this four stars. And then I hit the last two chapters. Dear God, the last two chapters were absolutely beautiful. I had tears in my eyes and I knew that five stars was the only rating I could give this.Simple Gifts is different i [...]

    4. I'm really rather torn on this one. While I loved Jason and Robb's story, I can't help feeling a little disappointed that so much was glossed over. I wanted a much deeper look into what happened in the past. This was a pretty emotional read, not really a joyful Christmas read, although the HEA is there. It's a strange mix that I can't really explain. I enjoyed it but it also left me feeling I was missing something in places. No doubt my own issues in liking things spelt out for me.

    5. What a beautiful and heart warming story. Two lost souls who reconnect after years and somehow heal each other. The author did a wonderful job of capturing so much in such a short book. I only wish it was longer.

    6. 4-4,5 starsThe dreamlike quality of the writing surprised me.Not what I expected from a story written by this author.Simple Gifts is a beautifully written novella of two lonely hearts finding love where there wasn`t even hope before. The perfect, heartwarming to-be-read-in-cold-winter-nights story.A tiny niggle was the self pity of both characters - usually not my thing, but since this was a Christmas story I didn`t really mindBtw - I would like to see Jason`s apartment for real. be a breathtaking [...]

    7. It's been a while since an LB Gregg release so I was pleased to see this Christmas story at Musa Publishing.  It tells of Jason who prefers to avoid all the socialising that happens around Christmas.  Unfortunately, his good friend Sunny, isn't letting him get away with it this year and drags him along to her family's Christmas shindig at their new mansion type house.  Whilst there Jason sees Sunny's brother, Robb, who's just been released from the military. Jason has had a crush on Robb for [...]

    8. Took a break from Into This River I Drown to listen to an audio book. So audio books have never really appealed to me, but it just happened that I won a copy of an audio book a short while ago and it turns out that in order to claim my prize I actually had to join audible luckily the first month is essentially free and I wanted to try audio books to see if I might not like them more than I had thought I would. Now that I have my babbling out of the way about how I came to listen to this story as [...]

    9. It's amazing what a talented author can do with a short story. This story takes place over a year, poor Jason, abandoned as a child and moving from foster home to foster home, and Robb, from a very affluent family but fighting his own PTSD demons. The MC don't have a lot of on page time together, but their yearning and love and need for each other comes through.Loved it!!

    10. LB Gregg always makes me love her characters, invests me in their happiness, drags me along for whatever ride she is taking her readers on. And all I can say is don't ever stop.

    11. This is a tale of two Christmas Eves. The story opens on the first Christmas Eve, when the normally very solitary Jason is going to a Christmas party with Robb's sister, at Robb's family home. Robb has been away in the Army, but unbeknownst to Jason he has also come home. They were lovers in high school, but Robb left Jason behind ten years before. After an accident on the front lawn involving wandering giant inflatable snow globes, Robb drives Jason to the hospital -- and ends up spending the n [...]

    12. This short story is jam packed with issues. Jason's an orphan, abused by the foster system and addicted to origami. Robb is just returned from the war with a bad case of PTSD. They've done the attraction thing before when they were young but Robb walked out (it's not explained why). Robb's parents are acting strange too. The mother's overly pushy, the father's trying to set up his gay son with women. There's also the female BFF. Other emotions, traumas and backstories are hinted at. In addition [...]

    13. Really 2 1/2 stars, but I'm rounding up because I've enjoyed some of the author's other books. I found Simple Gifts to be disjointed and confusing at times, without real connection to the MCs. The ending was abrupt too. It sort of felt like a set-up for a novel, if you lopped off the too-swift ending. I like Gregg's work, but this one didn't work for me.

    14. A heart-wrenching story with enough hope in it to make it good. Both MCs have their very real problems that kept or might keep them from being together. Sometimes I felt like I had the concussion instead of Jason because all those indicated background story bits and pieces made my head spin.

    15. Very good short m/m holiday romance about an emotionally closed off bar owner who's dragged to a holiday party, where he runs into the guy who loved and left him for the military without a word ten years ago.

    16. This is a book I read two Christmas' ago and had forgotten about. Heartbreaking but sweet, it is a lovely tale of two lost souls who need time and distance before they can come together and be any good for one another. A perfect Christmas story for a M/M romance/angst lover, like me.

    17. Loved this one so hard! It could have been at least twice as long and I would have still wanted more. So good!

    18. OMG this story tugged at my heart-strings so much. the ending just about brought tears to my eyes pretty amazing for such a short story!

    19. Another poignant story with well thought out characters that I fell in love with. But I wish it was longer- it was almost painful when the story ended and I ached for more!

    20. Simple Gifts is another great addition to my holiday shelf. First love or first crushes can be devastating when they don't work out the way you thought they would but when given a second chance years later, they can often be even better than you ever imagined. Jason and Robb's story is a beautiful tale for anytime of the year but Christmas makes it even more amazing. A true gift for the reader's soul.

    21. One of my favourite Christmas shorts, I've listened to it every year since I bought it and it still makes me laugh, cry and leaves me looking forward to Christmas. The narrator is 5* too.

    22. A novella that definitely needed to be longer to develop the story and characters more. Nice second hand romance but lacking in anything that really drew me into the story.

    23. Rating: AThis review originally appeared at Brief Encounters ReviewsPlease note: this is the second of LB Gregg’s Cornwall Novellas, but it is a standalone and has no narrative connection to the first. My previous encounters with LB Gregg’s writing have shown me how she excels at writing screwball comedy, so I was intrigued to see how she handled something that sounds so much darker. As you can probably tell from the blurb, both narrator Jason and his old flame Robb have some serious emotiona [...]

    24. Originally posted at Romance Around the CornerI discovered L.B. Gregg’s work last year when I read Mistletoe at Night, the novella that was part of Carina Press’ His For the Holidays (Anthology). Ever since then I have enjoyed pretty much all of her books, so I was very happy to read this new novella.Simple Gifts begins when Jason’s friend Sunny drags him to her parents’ Christmas party so he doesn’t have to spend the holidays alone. What she doesn’t tell him is that her older brothe [...]

    25. This review was originally written for The Romance Reviews and can also be found there. Love often hides in the most unexpected of places and has a tendency of catching us by surprise. Maybe it's all about fate and the speck of hope in the air of gloom. That was what I liked the most about this story, the expectancy of suppressed feelings and just how prone to sacrifice love can be. It's not easy to achieve that level of romantic and adorably sweet, hit that perfect note of love to swoon even th [...]

    26. Jason Ferris is a very private person, so when his best friend, Sunny drags him to her parent’s house for a Christmas party, he feels very uncomfortable. But that is just the beginning. When he gets to the party, he finds out Sunny’s brother Lt. Robb Sharpe is home from overseas. Jason had a major crush on Robb in high school, where they even started a physical relationship before things fell apart and Robb left for the Army. Jason immediately feels awkward and shy and the only thing he can [...]

    27. Simple Gifts is quite simply a beautiful read. Contained within a short story is so much warmth, heart and depth that you would be forgiven for thinking that it was going to be a much longer in length. Here is the blurb from Musa Publishing:" A former ward of the state, Jason Ferris is protective of his carefully guarded private life. When he's felled by a rogue lawn ornament at a Christmas party, Jason finds himself in the care of his first and most devastating love-- dark, dangerous, and equal [...]
