    1. This author always brings a wonderful suspense. She brings us a chilling story about a novelist and the danger she encounters researching a cold case that is the topic of her next book. Kariss Walker is contacted by Dr. Amy Garret about telling her story of being abducted, brutally assaulted and left for dead. The idea is appealing on many levels, but Kariss must address the fact that the attacker was never found so the story actually has no conclusion or closure. She longs to talk this out with [...]

    2. 4.5 starsI really enjoyed the complex case in this crime thriller. It kept me guessing for sure, and the villain is truly a bad dude. It added an extra element to have him be throwing out literary taunts, since Kariss was a writer.I do always enjoy a story with a writer in it, and it was great to have Kariss again. She's developed a bit more sense after the dangers of book one, but she's still ready to be independent and try to take care of herself. Obviously, there are issues when you don't lea [...]

    3. DiAnn Mills in her new book, “The Survivor” Book Two in the Crime Scene: Houston series published by Zondervan gives us a new adventure with Kariss Walker and Tigo Harris. From the back cover: Is it her next bestseller . . . Or her last words? In The Chase, award-winning author DiAnn Mills introduced you to the world of Kariss Walker, the bestselling suspense author with a nose for trouble. In The Survivor, Kariss gets the chance to tell her most powerful story yet. But will it revitalize her [...]

    4. Karissa Walker agrees to write the story of the brutal attack on Amy Garrett when she was a child in novel form, but someone doesn't want that book to be written. Karissa and FBI agent Santiago "Tigo" Harris broke off their relationship prior to the opening of the book, but are thrown back together as danger seems to stalk Karissa. Will Tigo finally give in to God? Will their relationship be put back together? Has Karissa gotten in over her head--again? I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline of this [...]

    5. The Survivor is a fast paced, action packed, suspense filled mystery with a touch of romance. Kariss Walker is a bestselling novelist looking for her next story when she is contacted by Amy Garrett, a woman who survived a near death attack as a child and who used her second chance to counsel individuals who have dealt with tragedy. Amy wishes to turn her experiences into a novel and asks Kariss to write it. Kariss is instantly intrigued since her last book also sprung from a cold case. The fact [...]

    6. A fairly interesting book, with some issues.First, The Survivor is too convoluted and bogged down with too many details. Karisss is nonsensical. No one has such disregard for their own life and safety. It's like she wanted to die. I thought she was dumb in the last book but in this book she is positively absurd. Tigo is much more likeable, but I couldn't understand his attraction to Kariss or how their relationship shifted from friendship in the last book to forlorn lovers in this sequal. Kariss [...]

    7. When she was a girl, Dr. Amy Garrett was attacked and left for dead. Although the assailant was never caught, Amy is ready to tell her story, and she asks author Kariss Walker (from book one in the series) to write her story. Amy's attacker comes out of the shadows at the news of the book, and Kariss just might have to turn to Tigo, her ex-boyfriend, for help when her life's on the line. The Survivor picks back up where the first book left off: full of adventure, suspense, and romance. First, th [...]

    8. Review on : amazon/review/R2LQCQFIReview on my blog: christianbookshelfreviewsThe Survivor was a really good read with a lot of suspense. I found it interesting how the novel was based on a solved cold case - it made the things that had happened to Amy all the more chilling.I don't really have a favorite character from The Survivor. I liked both Tigo and Kariss, but a few things annoyed/frustrated me about them. Mainly, how stubborn Kariss was and all the risks she took. Also, all the mentions o [...]

    9. One of the main characters in this book is a psychologist named DOCTOR Amy Garrett. I laughed out loud when I read this.

    10. This book kept me guessing up till the end. Lots of suspense.A must read for those who love suspense

    11. In the second of the Crime Scene: Houston books, Tigo and his partner are still working hard to bring down gangs until their SAC pulls them off that assignment to assist the Houston Police Department in a case involving the bombing deaths of the wife and the daughter of a high profile businessman. In the meantime, Kariss is drawn into writing another novel of a cold case of a woman who was taken from her bed at the age of nine while her family slept. She was left for dead in a nearby field after [...]

    12. Wow hold on to the seat of your pants. This one will have you glued to the pages to find out what happens next. You have a bombing of a wife and child. Then you have a someone threatening Kariss who is a writer that has been asked to write the story of Dr. Amy Garrett's abduction as a child. But who is threatening her? and now Amy too? Will the FBI agents be able to figure out who bombed the car of Jonathan and who is trying to harm Kariss and Amy? Are they connected? Who will survive this ordea [...]

    13. It's a great book, full of action and suspense. The only drawback for me is the ending, honestly. I understand that violence should never be a person's first choice, but when facing down a dangerous situation, you're allowed to defend yourself. It just seemed to me that the author was afraid to go there with the main character.

    14. There is a difference between being brave and just foolish. Mills doesn't seem to understand that distinction. Just infuriating at points.

    15. Title: The SurvivorAuthor: DiAnn MillsPages: 384Year: 2013Publisher: Zondervan The Survivor is the second novel of The Crime Scene: Houston Series and it was an awfully tense and inspiring story. The Chase is the groundwork for the series. While I hadn’t read the first story, it wasn’t hard to become enraptured with the characters, the multitude of themes as well as the suspense that comes from reading a crime-fighting novel. After I read the last page, I then read a special note from the au [...]

    16. Is it her next best seller.or her last words?Sometimes for a writer, the most difficult task if often coming up with the idea for your next book. Kariss Walker now has to chose which one of her true life tales she will breath life into. When she receives an email from Dr. Amy Garrett who wishes to bring her own tale to light, Kariss is more than intrigued. When she agrees to meet with Amy, she finds that Amy was brutally attacked as a child and the criminal was never caught. She wants Kariss to [...]

    17. THE SURVIVOR- part of the Houston Crime Scene series by DiAnn Mills- hits all the key elements I look for in a book. I like to call this formula R.I.S.K.- Romance, Intrigue, Suspense, Kinetic Energy (constant action). Kariss Walker has just completed a suspense novel based on a true story, and almost got herself killed in the process. She promises those she loves she’ll be more careful next time. Well, next time is here and trouble once again has found her. Dr. Amy Garrett survived a gruesome [...]

    18. The Pros: In the opening pages of this book, and anyone with a cursory knowledge of book one (The Chase) will immediately find themselves in the familiar territory of Castle. Fans of the ABC crime drama should love this one in particular as the vibes of that show are evident from the main plot to the chemistry between the leads – a chemistry that was insanely likable! Personally, I found that to be one of the most interesting parts of the book. This theme had great personality and made the cha [...]

    19. TV reporter-turned crime novelist Kariss Walker is approached by Dr Amy Garrett, the victim of a brutal childhood assault in which the culprit was never caught. Amy wants her story told, and asks Kariss to write it. In her personal life, Karris is recovering from having broken off her relationship with FBI agent Special Agent Santiago (Tigo) Harris, partly because of his lack of Christian faith. Tigo and his partner, Ryan Steadman, are pulled off a gang killing to investigate the carbomb murder [...]

    20. This book was a great read. Full of mystery and suspense with a wonderful love story between the main characters, Kariss and Tigo. Kariss is a fiction writer with a past history of getting herself into trouble while writing a book. This time, Dr. Amy Garrett, approaches her to write her own horrible abduction story, an unsolved case, into a novel. Exactly why is she wanting to do this is Kariss main question. But she is intrigued by the story and is led into a world of danger. Her former love an [...]

    21. The Survivor is an action packed suspense novel with a touch of romance, the perfect combination. I was glued to the pages, trying to figure out who-did-it but to no avail. I had no idea who the villain(s) were until the end. Kariss Walker, a novelist meets Dr Amy Grant who survived a brutal childhood attack. She wants Kariss to tell her story. When this unsolved cold-case turns out to be more than a story Kariss needs advice but is hesitant to contact Tigo because of unresolved issues between t [...]

    22. One of the things I love about DiAnn Mills' stories is the complexities of her characters. There are only two main characters in The Survivor - Kariss Walker and Tigo Harris - but every other character involved in this intense suspense novel has just as many facets to their stories as Kariss and Tigo. I also love that even the relationships are tense. There isn't a slow spot in this book.I also love that DiAnn touched on one tough topic in this novel: a fallen pastor. I always prefer novels with [...]

    23. When Amy Garrett approaches Kariss Walker to write her story Kariss is intrigued. When Amy was 9 years old she was abducted from her bedroom and left in a field to die. She survived the horrific assault and is now ready to tell her story. But the killer is still out there and he for one is not willing to be caught.Kariss and FBI Special Agent Santiago(Tigo) Harris are no longer dating. Kariss saw no future for their relationship when Tigo does not share her faith in a Savior and also neglected t [...]

    24. DiAnn Mills is on my short list of must-read suspense authors, and The Survivor is yet another reason why. Like The Chase (which I reviewed here), this novel is based on an actual cold case from the Houston FBI files, a heart-wrenching kidnapping and attempted murder which the victim survived. Mills skillfully communicates the details of the attack without being graphic or sensational and her portrayal of the now-grown Dr. Amy Garrett, and the lingering emotional scars she bears but tries to hid [...]

    25. The Survivor is a heartening suspense novel that will draw readers in with a quick snap. Those two qualities may surprise you at how well they work together, but DiAnn Mills perfectly meshes a hopeful romance with a daring mystery.Kariss Walker, a best-selling mystery author, is approached by a survivor from a brutal attack from years ago who wants Kariss to write her story. Amy is a psychologist who counsels abused women while battling the fears of her unresolved case. She thinks Kariss is the [...]

    26. After reading The Chase by DiAnn Mills which is also a part of the Crime Scene Houston "series" I have been anxiously awaiting The Survivor!I love, I mean absolutely love, a book where the action bounds of the pages and characters seem like real people who may be next door neighbors. Well, The Survivor, is THAT kind of read!In The Chase, Kariss is an ex-TV news anchor-turned novelist who wants to move from women's fiction into suspense against the wishes of her agent. Now, Kariss meets Dr. Amy G [...]

    27. "The Survivor" by DiAnn Mills is the second book in the "Crime Scene Houston" series, but it was still fine to read it without having read the first book in the series. The series features Kariss Walker who is a fiction author who focuses on writing crime-fiction. In this book she is approached by Dr Amy Garrett - who went through a horrific attack when she was a child - to write a novelised version of the attack and her story. Unfortunately, what neither of them realise, this new book provokes [...]

    28. Kariss and Tigo are back with another cold case and this one is even more nail biting than the first. Kariss should have learned her lesson when she nearly died researching her last book with the FBI, but that drive to that pushes her to find the truth just can't be ignored. Much to Tigo's frustration. Not that he should complain too much when he has so much of the same drive reflected in himself. But, as Tigo would say, he was trained to handle thisDiAnn Mills has done a fantastic job once agai [...]

    29. Synopsis: Writer Kariss is asked to write a fictionalized account of the childhood rape of Dr. Amy Garrett, and finds herself the target of of a psychopath. FBI Special Agent Tigo comes to her rescue and captures her heart. What I didn't like: As with the first book in the series, I found the protagonist to be utterly ridiculous. Kariss dove into danger without a lick of common sense. The writing was competent but fell flat. The timeline for many events was compressed beyond credulity. What I like [...]
