  1. I loved this book and I wasn't disappointed! I love the Ever After High series because of the different twists and turns. The characters are amazing and I found that Daring Charming is really funny in this. The plot is very different compared to the other Ever After High books. This is another series with the Ever After High characters. There is a show for this series and I watch it. It's from the creators of Monster High and I loved that too. The plot is so different and I love how all the char [...]

  3. A book that you can relate to very much. Duchess and Lizzie, best friends and roommates, go to the same school and get into the same competition. Duchess has to get an A and a treasure from an old chest, which only one student (the winner) can achieve those. In order to win, they have to make the most evil thing happen in school, the more evil the better. But Duchess has to ruin everyone's plan in order to win, including her friends. Will the two break, or make up?

  4. This is a hard book to rate. The main character (and POV) is Duchess Swan. Before this point Duchess wasn't exactly nice. In fact, I found her to be downright mean. That's why it is hard to rate this book. Before this point, it was too easy to just think of Duchess as a bully. But now I'm confused. Because the Duchess in Next Top Villain is different than the Duchess from the Shannon Hale books. (view spoiler)[ It does state that Shannon Hale wrote the prequels, so she could change between the en [...]

  5. Another home run for the Ever After High series! This adorable world is just my cup of tea. Although this spin-off series was penned by a different author, I still enjoyed myself. These school stories focus on the side characters (which I love) rather than the principle characters to offer a different perspective. Once again, whoever is in charge of manufacturing the copies of these books deserves a medal. The hardcover design is impeccable with beautiful fonts, gold lettering, and it even spell [...]

  6. Not as prone to gleeful puns as the Shannon Hale set. And-- interestingly-- more serious in tone. You look at the cover and think FLUFFY GIRL BOOK, and then the story is about a character considering whether to betray and hurt her friends in the hope of winning herself a happy ending. Dude, I have to stop thinking "girl book" means "fluffy". Sexism much? Overall, I didn't enjoy these as much as the first trilogy, but it's still a really interesting premise and I love all the characters. Duchess, [...]

  8. It was exciting story to read. As a doll collector and huge fan of Ever After High, this book was amazing to read.

  9. The ever after high series is fun energetic mysterious and many more amazing names that have been used for years. In book 1= the storybook of legends apple white and raven queen go on a mysterious adventure to find out if ravens destiny is truly secure. In book 2= The un - fairest of them all. Apple and raven travel yet again wondering why raven queen hasn't poofed yet. These amazing tales are what inspired me to read. I eventually went on to a wonderlandiful world = book 3. And to Next Top Vill [...]

  10. Ever After High The Next Top Villain1. Author’s Background The author is Suzanne Selfors. She has made a lot of books and my favorite books are her Ever After High series. She was born in 1963 and a lot of her books are fantasy and some of them are mystery books.2. Literary Time PeriodThis book is when they have kings and queens but it is mixed in this generation time.3. SettingThe setting is in a school. It's not a normal school because it is like a kingdom. It starts off at their room and th [...]

  11. It’s a new year at Ever After High the school for the next generation of fairytale characters. Duchess Swan daughter of the swan princess is determined to make her family proudly, even if it means pledging her destiny and becoming a swan forever. She is a royal, but there is one difference for her, she doesn’t have an happily ever after, and often wishes for one just like the other princesses at the school, and also she has the magical ability to turn into a swan. Duchess longs for a happily [...]

  12. I really enjoyed this one. I haven't finished reading Shannon Hale's trilogy yet but since I got this from the library and Hale's books I own, I figured I better read this one before. I love all the sayings they have in here and all the magical gadgets they use and talk about. I love the world Ever After High presents and I can't help but want to go to school here. I also love all the different characters presented and the different spins Selfors has created for her new characters. If you've rea [...]

  13. I really liked this one. it wasn't over the top with the fairy tale puns. this was a nice read as a continuation of the original books by Shannon hale. I felt for duchess swan quite a few times and felt like I could relate. interested in reading the next one which looks like it'll deal with ginger breadhouse and maybe apple white? also, Blondie locks annoyed the ever loving crap out of me (as the psuedo villain perhaps?) and was saddened to not see her get her just right justice. maybe next time [...]

  14. Really want like reallyDon't think it can top Hale's, butEdit: I now have you and will be reading you promptly. ;)This was actually better than I had expected. Though I think I would've enjoyed it more if I had been younger.Still really fun and I love all the fairytale references! :)

  15. I loved this book! And the characters are amazing! I mean, you can find the daughter of Goldilocks, Rapunzel and Robin Hood also. And many more. Haha. A very interesting book.

  16. I read 1 of the Shannon Hale EA High books earlier this year and I have to say that I found that to be much better than this book. I get that these are aimed at children (I'm 34) but this was written for the younger reader maybe around age 8 in terms of plot whereas the Shannon Hale one would have appealed (I think) up to about age 12 as it had more depth to it.The characters were very two dimensional in this story and there wasn't really much insight into their motivations - you get told each c [...]

  17. What happens when a royal in Ever After High tries to change her destiny? Ever After High:Next Top Villain by Suzanne Selfors is about the daughter of The Swan Queen, Duchess Swan and how she wants her destiny to be different. Duchess was jealous that all the royals got to have a happily ever after with a prince, and how she had to live with being a swan for the rest of her life after she signs the book to follow in her mom's footsteps. For example, Snow White's daughter Apple White and Cinderel [...]

  18. Duchess Swan, and Lizzie Hearts are put in the class general villainy and don’t know why. They have a homework assignment to do something mean by the end of the week. Dutchess sabotages everyone's homework, even Lizzie’s. They are not friends anymore. Sparrow Hood double crosses Duchess. A theme in this book is that friendship is important. First, Duchess ruines Lizzie’s homework and she is mad. But soon Duchess saves Lizzie’s life and they are friends again. Sparrow makes a deal with Du [...]

  19. I always enjoyed reading these books. This is the first book that was not Written by Shannon Hale. This book focuses on Duchess Swan and Lizzie Hearts, and what they will do for the General Villainery assignment to be next top villain. Just like the other Ever After High books, the puns can be a bit over the top, but this is supposed to be read for fun and all in all it is a fun read.

  20. With the change in author, it took a minute to get used to a new style, and I admit that the main character of this book (Duchess Swan) isn't my favorite, but they have the same feel as the originals and I'm still interested to see where they go. I'll keep reading a few more for sure.

  21. I thought it was very cute right until the last two pages when it felt like it became sticky-sweet.

  22. What does happen after the fairy tale marriage children, school ? Surprises include the winner of a competition for acting mean and nasty to class-mates. How we can escape others' expectations is a classic "coming-of-age" for YA ("young adults"), and a perennial question for any age. Duchess Swan, room-mate with fiery Lizzie Hearts, learns black magic can let her change her destiny, stay human instead of turning into a swan forever.

  23. Uh what?I seriously am incredibly sad by this book. I was expecting so much and what I had left with was much to be desired. So, going in, I thought this would be like the other main books in the series. You know, continue the story, find out what happens next with the Storybook of Legends.Uh no. What I got was a slice of life style story that takes place within one week about Duchess Swan. Now I will say, I did like the fact it was a book from Duchess's point of view. She's one of those character [...]

  24. AudioBook Review: Stars Overall: 3 Narration: 3 Story: 2I expected this story to feel more seamless, even with the author change. I’ve reviewed the second title in that series and enjoyed the whimsical twists and personalities given to the ‘true royalty’ of the fairy tale world. In this series, focused more on secondary and lesser characters, the focus seems to rest on backstory and ‘in between’ moments, not truly driving the plot forward but providing some new information about charac [...]

  25. This is going to sound ridiculously smug and condescending, and I'll be the first to acknowledge I have no right to either of those positions, but the only thing I can think to say about this book is, "good try." And I know it's not fair to compare it to Shannon Hale's books (because, seriously Shannon Hale) but even without making those comparisons, it's just an okay book. There are some serious holes in the logic. For example, I have no problem with Grimm deciding to try to force Duchess off-b [...]

  26. Check out my blog at UtopiaNeverComes And please make sure to follow my Google Blog to be kept up to date on the upcoming books I will be reading. Thanks!-----------I am really excited that this new series of Ever After High books is introducing different characters that have never been written about before. This first book in the entirely new series, written by a new author to the Ever After High family, Suzanne Selfors, is through the eyes of Duchess Swan. While Duchess was mentioned once or t [...]

  27. Next Top Villan PLOT: There must some mistake! Duchess Swan is a princess. She's the daughter of the Swan Queen. Yet she's been placed in Villainy class along with Raven Queen, her room-mate Lizzie Hearts, Sparrow Hood, Gingerbread House, and Fay-belle Thorne. Duchess isn't the only one that doesn't want to be there discouraged by the lack of evil (a shame coming from some of the greatest evil heritages of all times) in his students Mr. Bad Wolfe gives them an assignment that gives them a week t [...]
