    1. Book one in a very successful series, starts out with a bang! We are introduced to Detective Inspector Helen Grace. Both fierce and fearless, she leads her pack of detective’s with a strong-arm and iron will. She keeps most everyone in her life at arm’s length not allowing herself to give or feel closeness or love. So when the inevitable darkness creeps in, she has her own unique way to “punish herself” keeping the demons at bay. Temporarily. The team is called in to investigate a series [...]

    2. "On the floor by the phone you'll find a gun. It has one bullet in it. For Sam or for yourself. That is the price of your freedom. You must kill to live. Do you want to live, Amy?"I've seen this concept done a few times already. Where the killer traps the people together with no food or water, gives them the only way out is though killing scenario. It's been done better with "Saw" and an episode of "Criminal Minds".This book tries to move fast. Several characters get to be trapped in this hell b [...]

    3. 5 Stars.A Nail Biter. In more ways than one. “Eeny Meeny” is twisted and somewhat depraved. And for some crazy reason I absolutely loved it. DI Helen Grace is one tough copper. She has been through it all and she has seen the absolute worst of it, or so she thought.Amy and Sam hitchhike home one dark, cold night, when they are picked up by a woman in a van. They are thrilled at first, and then they wake up somewhere else. In an old dive pool out in the middle of nowhere. They find a phone an [...]

    4. i was approved for this book through netgalley at a time when i had a bunch of books i had to read for that program i read for, and right before i went home for easter. i brought three "littry" books with me, and this one on my NOOK, thinking vacation = lots of reading time, and i could plow through all of them no problem. it didn't quite work out that way, as i had many personal-life traumas suddenly obstacling my path at the same time, and i wasn't able to concentrate on any of the books i was [...]

    5. I think I am going to love this series. I have heard so many great things about this series. This first book was just average to me. It wasn't anything that really made me intrigued. The worst part in reading a series is you have to read every book to get the whole experience of the series. Even though this book was just average, I am going to read the rest of the series. I liked Helen Grace and her character was done very well. The title, Eeny Meeny, indicates that some hard choices are going t [...]

    6. Eeny Meeny by J. Arlidge is a serial killer thriller/crime thriller, set in and around the city of Southampton, a typical inner city. The story centers around a series of double kidnappings, where one captive is called upon to make a life or death decision. Eeny Meeny grabs you and doesn’t let go until you reach the end, when the killer is revealed. The victims were drugged, abducted, starved and forced to commit murder.“She made me do it.”They receive a distorted phone call that said, “D [...]

    7. Find all of my reviews at: 52bookminimum/“When you’re a prisoner, the days seem endless and hope is the first thing to die.”Boy I really don’t have many good things to say about this one. Let’s start with the most glaring problem – the entire plot was very much . . . . The “game” begins when two people are abducted. Once the captives wake up from the sedative they’ve been given they find they are trapped somewhere and left with only a gun and a single bullet. It is up to one of [...]

    8. 3.5 starsI was really looking forward to reading this debut series police procedural, introducing the smart and strong Detective Helen Grace. While I can't say that I was disappointed, I did have some issues with the book that held me back from giving it a higher rating. Here's some of what I did like: -Like most all protags, Detctive Grace comes across smart and powerful, a loner. But the author allows the reader to get to know the other side not shown to anyone else. This made her a lot more 'r [...]

    9. Eeny Meeny by MJ Aldridge is a dark creepy yes i said CREEPY thriller that had me spell bound i could not put this one down. The story starts in a town South hampton where two people at a time are kidnapped & told to choose which one of them will die, How could someone choose?A girl emerged from the woods barely alive her story was beyond belief but it was TRUE every single word of it.Days later another desperate escapee is found & a pattern starts to emerge , whoever is kidnapping the vi [...]

    10. Reading this book reminded me why I don't usually read books like this. They reminded me that humans are so fucked up and life is so depressing. But that said, it was a gripping book with quite a few unexpected twists up to the very end and it did live up to the premise. So, I do recommend it but now I'm going to watch cat videos on YouTube because I need something to cheer me up.

    11. Eeny Meeny by M.J. Arlidge – A Helen Chase Novel- is a 2015 NAL publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is my kind of thriller! Dark, twisty, with nail biting suspense! Helen Chase, detective Inspector, has her hands full when a diabolical serial killer begins abducting people in pairs, dumping them in a dive pool, with a cell phone, and gun provided. The hostages will receive one call informing them they have the op [...]

    12. Two people are kidnapped, locked in a room with a gun and only one of them will walk out alive. Detective Helen Grace must find out who the kidnapper is, but as more people get kidnapped the hunt becomes more and more intense as the police try to figure out what links the kidnappings togetherI usually find no problems with reading books out of order nowadays. But, in this case, I kind of regret that I read Pop Goes the Weasel before I read Eeny Meeny. Why? Because a bit of the enjoyment of readi [...]

    13. The first in a multiple part series featuring detective inspector Helen Grace; this is a promising debut with all that good cop thrillers are known for. The author delivers what the synopsis suggests - and more. The story is well paced and the chapters are kept short to ensure the readers attention is held throughout. Although this was quite different to the usual style of thriller I read, I enjoyed it nonetheless and felt Helen's character was well developed. As ever, it's pleasing to read a th [...]

    15. Kind of disappointing. Loved it to start with - the premise is intriguing and the characters are terrific. Helen Grace is fascinating. Then the structure started to bother me. Short chapters are fine, especially when you basically have a chapter for each POV switch. But then multiple POVs and different scenes started appearing in a single chapter, which made the chapter breaks feel kind of arbitrary. Some crime books introduce the reader to cast of characters and offer them the chance to figure ou [...]

    16. 2.5 stars. This was an interesting one for me, can't say I've read a book like this before. But that's ok, as it's not my usual genre. Two people picked by a crazy perpetrator, one will live and one will die. Detective Inspector Helen Grace is at the fore, trying to solve this crime that seems to be turning into a serial killing. She's a hard woman and we get to know that her life has been terrible as a youngster. She isn't the most likeable character but I didn't have a problem with this as ther [...]

    17. I was lost in the dark cloudy disturbing craggy coulee with Kaceey reading Eeeny Meeny. We started off pretty comfy in the sunshine however soon after starting this one the dark clouds covered up the sunshine and Kaceey and I fight a little squeamish and were looking for cover from the shower of intense dread that overtook us and some characters to the twisted game inflicted by the killer. Eeny Meeny is an action-packed, dark and twisted story with a game so disturbing and more twisted than our [...]

    18. I received a digital version of this book from Netgalley. It was in one of those emails they tempt you with send you, making it sound like the best book ever. So, because I'm weak, I requested it. There's nothing wrong with the premise or writing, it's just not my cup of tea. Apparently, this is the first book in a new series about investigator Helen Grace. It's very dark, it's a police procedural, and it's about some psychos making people suffer horribly. I have a hard time with the really dark [...]

    19. Amy and Sam had enjoyed their gig together that night and decided to hitchhike home – Amy had let her mother know that’s what they were doing. And when the van pulled over to give them a lift, they were both thrilled; the driver was friendly, chatting to them, offering them a warm drink. But when they slowly woke and became aware of their situation, they realized they were in big trouble. As the days passed slowly without food or water, with no means of escape, the terror of the only choice [...]

    20. I really enjoyed this book, it only just missed out on being a 5 star rating as I felt it lost some of it's clever "dark" bits towards the middle and then the end of the book. The beginning was fantastic, super clever storyline, unusual and interesting. It's a book that I read really quickly, read it over 24 hours and the pace is really good.I really liked the female protagonist and keen to read M.J. Aldridge's next book featuring the same Detective, she was a really good character. I think the [...]

    21. I received this book through giveaway and thoroughly enjoyed it. DI Helen Grace is a tough leader trying to solve a case in which two victims have gone missing .The suspect plays a game with them by keeping them in captivity and letting one go only when he/she kills the other.Soon another pair goes missing and Helen realizes that the enemy might be someone close to her. It's a great psychological thriller with some strong characters and a compulsive storyline . I am looking forward to reading t [...]

    22. I'm so glad I gave M J Arlidge another chance after reading 'Love Me Not' and not enjoying it having not read any other books in the series. Now I've read this one 'Love Me Not' makes so much more sense and I can't wait to read more in the series. I strongly advise people to start from the beginning of this series or you may be left disappointed like myself and have to go back to the start anyway to truly appreciate it. Thank you to Natalie for doing my first ever buddy read with me. Was so good [...]

    23. Eeny Meeny – stunning and brilliantM.J. Arlidge has spent a career writing high class drama for our delectations on television as well as producing crime dramas for ITV. He has brought his experience to this novel and really gives us a taste of suspense, thriller that packs a punch not sure where or who is next and why. He does pose the reader the question though of what would you do to survive all the way through the book. As you get towards the end of the book the one thing you do not want t [...]

    24. Over a 110 chapters. Compulsive read. Read for the joy of reading. Nothing in character development or insight into some secrets of the psyche. The type of book that you would read in bed over a weekend. Two potential victims one lives and one doesn't. The survival of the fittest in the most horrible way. An introduction to Helen Grace. She is not your ordinary police officer and she will not be ordinary in any mean. Looking forward to book 2.

    26. I have been bumping up this book to read for ages. Finally I got to read it. I would like to thank first reads for my copy. This was a cleverly written thriller. It starts off very good, nothing like a book I have ever read before anyway, kept my brain ticking over.I can now see what all the hype is about this book by M J Arlidge as sometimes when things are hyped up you get excited and expect more than it can deliver, right? In this case, its a true hype, it is what it is.Very clever, and I am [...]

    27. A roller coaster of a murder/mystery/detective book with kick ass characters and grisly murders - dark, fast-paced and hard-hitting - I just loved it.I think I especially enjoyed the audio version because the narration was fantastic. The main character Helen made a lot of mistakes that annoyed me but I thought she was a brilliant character. I can't wait to read more! Or should I say listen morehighly recommended!

    28. LOVED this book. It was a terrific story and totally gripped me AND it was set locally to places I've lived or live now which also makes it more interesting as you can picture the distances and the places mentioned so invest more in it. I can't wait to read her follow-up which I've heard on is even better !! BlimeyI'd wondered at how the author thought up some of this stuff as I'd assumed it was a lady author but then found on here it's a guy. Sexist, I know, but I wasn't so shocked then !! I s [...]

    30. I had a bit of a struggle deciding my star rating for this one, but I decided to subtract a star for a couple of continuity issues I noticed. This is a good book, but not great. The situations of two people being placed in dire straits together are psychologically taut and well done. There are some disgusting, but realistic scenes. The story is fast paced, probably due to short, and some very short, chapters. DI Helen Grace is an interesting character, and she would have been interesting even wit [...]
