    1. Highland Dragon Warrior was a really interesting and unique paranormal romance. This book had dragons, magic, sorcerers, mystery, action, and romance! There was a lot of world building and I thought the author did a great job at creating this intriguing world. I also loved the Scotland setting. The author was so descriptive that I felt like I was there in Scotland with the characters!Sophia was the main female character, and she was a strong and determined woman. Sophia was a smart woman and I l [...]

    2. Historical romances are few and far between for me to pick up and read, but when I saw it featured dragon shifters, well I just had to give it a try. Highland Dragon Warrior was an interesting and pleasant read. It’s set in medieval times with magicians, sorcerers, dragon shifters, demons, and alchemy. It’s got mystery, action, and romance. Sophie our heroine is a strong and determined women. She’s smart and stands up for what she believes in. Cathal our hero is a powerful and fierce warri [...]

    3. Travel to the early 14th century, and see the world that Isabel Cooper has built: Magic, mysticism, fantastic beasts and alchemy are all alive and well, and plenty of intrigue abounds. Sophia Metzger is an alchemist, strange enough to be a woman learned in this art, but she also has other differences. Self-supporting, Jewish and a world traveler, she’s far more modern than most others of her time, and isn’t afraid of asking for what she needs or wants. When she hears of the MacAlasdairs and [...]

    5. Read for romance book club otherwise it's unlikely that I would have picked this one up, since I don't usually do paranormals and I mistakenly thought "historical dragon shifter hero" = alphahole. I was so wrong! Honestly, this absolutely worked for me. - heroine is an extremely practical and smart Jewish scientist (alchemist, technically, but very much a scientist in approach and demeanor) in her late 30s/early 40s; - dragon shifter hero NOT actually a jerky alpha - totally a beta boyfriend sup [...]

    6. Originally published at Reading RealityI picked this up thinking that it was a followup to the author’s earlier Highland Dragons series, the one that starts wonderfully with Legend of the Highland Dragon, continues marvelously in The Highland Dragon's Lady and comes to its awesome conclusion in Night of the Highland Dragon. But Highland Dragon Warrior isn’t a followup. Instead, it’s the beginning of a prequel series. Instead of the very tail end of the 19th century, this story is set at the [...]

    7. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.I was expecting this to be a dragon shifter romance so I was disappointed that the focus was more on alchemy rather than dragons and shifting. I also found myself getting bored because I found the pacing of the story to be quite slow/dragging. This book isn't for me. Sorry.

    8. ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair reviewPlot: 3.5/5Characterisation: 3/5Prose: 4/5How much I enjoyed it: 3/5The premise of the book is really interesting. Set in the medieval times with dragon shapeshifters, sorcery, magicians and demons; away from the usual time-travel, druids or fae influences as is usual with a historical paranormal romance. The plot itself is very straight-forward. Sophie, an alchemist initially approached Cathal, a dragon shapeshifter for h [...]

    9. 'Highland Dragon Warrior' by Isabel Cooper is the First Book in a New Series called "Dawn of the Highland Warrior'. This is the story of Sophia Metzger and Cathal MacAlasdair. Sophia and her friends are world travelers which for that time period is a real accomplishment. In addition she is Jewish who is a alchemist which in it self is a wonder. Cathal is dealing with trying to save his best friend who is at the mercy of an evil wizard. Cathal and Sophia come to deal that she will try an help him [...]

    10. I don't want to say this book was boring, but it kind of was. It definitely was not quite what I was expecting either. I did not go into this looking for lessons on alchemy or on what is and is not appropriate behavior between a man and a woman. For so much of the book little to nothing actually happens except those lessons. It wasn't until about the last 20% or so that it actually became a real story and I was kind of interested in what was going to happen. Sadly, I can't even say that the idea [...]

    13. First in a new fantasy historical series from Isabel Cooper, Highland Dragon Warrior focuses on Sophia, an alchemist who is in hopes of making new discoveries and adding to her knowledge of the alchemical world and, Cathal MacAlasdair, one of the ruling members of his clan of Scotsmen who also happen to be warrior dragons. While Sophia comes seeking knowledge, Alasdair is in need of someone to help one of his men after an attack by an evil magically endowed enemy. He makes bargain with Sophia; i [...]

    14. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Paranormal and historical are my two favorite romance sub-genres. I am always excited too find them together, so I had high expectations for this book that weren't quite matched. I expected a shape-shifter book with a historical setting. While there is shape-shifting, it is more of a minor detail than a focal point. However, it had enough redeeming qualities to keep me reading. Sophia is an Alchemist and what she need [...]

    15. This was a very different book from what I thought I would find. It's romantic fantasy/magic more than shifter/highlander. I was looking forward to reading my first Isabel Cooper book when I was granted surprising access through NetGalley. Yes there's a Dragon Warrior, Cathal MacAlisdair who is the youngest son and currently holding down the castle for his family. But, this is more about the Jewish alchemist Sophia Metzger, who is seeking a dragon scale for experimentation. He agrees to give her [...]

    16. Visit my blog for more reviews: Sportochick's Musings Interesting and unforgettable is what I think of this book. The author does an exciting job of adding mysticism and Dragons together to created a memorable story between relationship weary Sophia and Cathal. Though they both don't really trust each other they need each other to save a life. It was gutsy of Sophia and her friend Alice to travel so far and go to a place that hates people of their kind so that Sophia could help many people. Her [...]

    17. When Sophia goes to Castle MaAlasdair to ask the lord there for a dragon scale to use for her alchemy she doesn't realize how her life is going to change. Cathal, the son of the lord and a dragon, and in charge while his father is away, agrees to give her dragon scales. There is a price, though. Find a cure for a dark spell a man has cast on his friend, making his friend shrink and melt much like snow in spring. Soon, Sophia and Cathal are attracted to each other, but have no time to pursue wher [...]

    18. This is a delightful book. It has a smart heroine who is far from being stereotypical: she's a Jewish alchemist with a curious brain and the ability to figure out new problems. The hero has a touch of broodiness, but not much. He has limitations and isn't afraid to seek help. Despite being a dragon shifter, he's not obnoxiously alpha. However, I would like to have seen more development of the villain. He's just Evil (with a capital E). The story left me wanting to read about the further adventur [...]

    19. Not bad. The biggest issue was being put into this world with little background knowledge. There was no world-building-you were assumed just to know how theses things work. Which is a shame because its a fascinating world and deserves way more attention. However, that's just a personal quibble as there's nothing wrong with the AUs technique. The plot is rather good, but the romance was secondary. I was more interested in how things were going to be solved and the alchemy/magic than the two leads [...]

    20. This is 3.5 stars for the somewhat lengthy time spent in dream world, which I quite frankly found boring and mostly skimmed. Also, having looked at some of the negative reviews for this, this is not a dragon shifter story. It's a historical romance that happens to have dragon shifters in it. Two very different sub-genres of romance.I'm always here for a Jewish heroine, and it didn't seem like she was depicted to unrealistically (given the fact that she lived in a world with dragons and magic).

    21. Highland Dragon Warrior is the 1st book in Isabel Cooper Dawn of the Highland Dragon series. Nothing too exciting really happens in this book, since it was just setting the foundation for the series, and an introduction of the characters of sorts. The story was slow in some place but really picked up as the story unfolds. The banter between Cathal and Sophia was cute. I personally couldn’t get into the story. When Sophia talked about alchemy it was like she was talking a foreign language. If y [...]

    22. Dragons + alchemy + magic + 1300s + Scotland + romance. What's not to love? I'll enjoyed the writing style, the details of the alchemy, and the well described internal thoughts of the two main characters. Even if the setting wasn't perfectly accurate as far as historical details, I found I didn't care at all since I rather liked the characters and was rooting for them, if that makes sense. And I loved the storyline. I can't wait to read more dragon romances (this was my first)!

    23. I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a very hard read for me. It took me forever to get into the story. We had Sophia an alchemist and Cathal is a shapeshifting dragon. They have joined forces in order to fight a great evil. The story plot was well done. I just couldn't get over the scientific lingo and processes that were used. It just made for a very hard read.

    24. This was the no-nonsense Jewish alchemist heroine/wooby dragon shifter hero romance that I never knew I needed. Bonus - set in the Highlands with nary a "doona fash yourself lassie" or anything. Also bonus for Alice and Sophia's friendship and being "older" (in popular culture terms) women off having adventures.

    25. Sophia was great. Although there aren't a lot of interaction between the two. Quite a bit of time was spent on the other dragon siblings. The eBook i read also contained a significant chunk of the next book, probably 1/4 at least. The cover, like all other dragon books by Isabel cooper seems created for an entirely different book. I'm fairly sure Cathal was described at blond in the book

    26. Entertaining!I do not review books to be a critic. For me, they are entertaining or not, well written or not, thought provoking or not, original in thought or well written enough to tell an old story in a fresh way. This book was entertaining, well-written with an interesting derivation on a story similar to some others. A very fun read.

    27. This was surprisingly good. It wasn't a quick or light read because of the richness and depth of the writing. Wordsragraphstionsdialog were all to be savored rather than "wolfed down." World building was solid. Magic followed rules. All of which make for a very good, solid story. I look forward to continuing the series and reading more by this author.

    28. Fantastic start to a series, I was hooked from page one, magic, alchemy, sexy scottish dragon warriors, what more could a girl want.I received an advanced copy and I voluntarily leave my own opinion
