    1. With all his cynical wonder, this is not necessarily an uplifting account. Some lucid, insightful (almost prophetic at times) notions about the indigenous communities in LatAm in particular throughout the Andes, at one point pondering on the potential for a revolutionary movement in Peru that would 'shoot everyone on sight' several years before the Shining Path took root in the Ayacucho region almost dropped my copy when I read that.
