    1. A very interesting and entertaining account of the relationship between the irish people and the British monarchy, from the reign of Queen Victoria onwards. Mary Kenny discusses the way irish people have felt about the monarchy, before and after Ireland gained its independence. I particularly enjoyed her description of her mother's feelings about Edward VIII's abdication in 1936:'My mother, then a woman of 34 with three young children, thought it was simply the most romantic story in the world; [...]
