    1. The trouble with books of this ilk is that the individual facts, and the explanation of them, can be interesting, even amusing, but after a while one suffers from information overload and the format begins to pall. But I am not good at dipping into books - I don't keep any by the loo, it's not a place I like to hang around - so I always make the mistake of reading things like this in one go and getting bored. It was exacerbated in this instance because there was little unfamiliar amongst the fac [...]

    2. I've read several of this sort of book, most of which have been great. This one failed for 2 reasons:1. Too many of the facts were obvious. For example, can there really be anyone who doesn't know that it's bad for you to drink salty sea water ? 2. The author quotes the source of each fact, in the text. This means that every other sentence contains a book title, making it hard work to read. I gave up 3/4 of the way through because of this.

    3. Relatively amusing. I was left feeling strangely empty by this book.I collect trivia, almost as a pass-time, and I would call myself a pedant when it comes to accurate recollections, but I did not feel any kind of connection to this book. It seemed a littlelow brow for something claiming to be an embodiment of precision.

    4. Unlike other reviews I read, I did not know all of the information contained in this book. I wish I could retain all the information I read. But I do enjoy books like this and may get the pedants revolt and see what knowledge I can glean from it.

    5. Lots of very interesting facts. It's useful that someone has gone and found out about some of these things, saving me the effort!
