    1. Brilliant to read some of Darwin's original arguments for evolution through natural selection - when it was yet to be widely accepted. Covered interesting things like rebuttals to other scientists arguments, the inadequacy of the fossil record, how identical species might exist separated by vast distances, when fossils are actually laid down, how long it takes for land to actually erode, and trying to get to grips with just how massive spans of time really are.That said it's not easy going but t [...]

    2. I struggled hard with this exceptional piece of scientific research. While the matter of this book's topic should be rated a 5, I give it a 2 for my overall experience with reading the book. Dated 1859 of first publication, I struggled with understanding paragraph to paragraph. The way in which Darwin wrote Hosts of Living Forms has since been lost and lost is the reader that attempts to read. I stuck with it though. I gave this a three because a) it's dense science writing b) it's dense science writing from the nineteen hundreds so the syntax is a bit weird to the modern reader BUT it's probably a 5 star because a) it is some ground breaking scientific stuff which is rather interesting and b) it does get easier to read the drunker you get
